STORY BRIEF:Amy has loved Quinn since she was 14. She is now 30. She never showed her feelings. He has never known her feelings. He dated another, married, and is now in process of divorce. His wife cheated on him. Amy needs legal help and calls Quinn's wife, but Quinn answers the phone. He gives her advice and then shows up to help her at a public hearing. Amy doesn't know Quinn is getting a divorce. She wants to avoid being with him because unrequited love is painful.
REVIEWER'S OPINION:
I wanted something meatier. The set up was ok, but too much vague communication going on. They each feel attraction but they don't let the other know. Then after she makes a move, he tells her it was a mistake. This happens twice. His thinking is he desires her, but he has nothing to offer her. They work in different cities, and his divorce isn't final. He won't have sex with someone because of those reasons? One of the rules of writing is to have characters act in accordance with their motivations and aims. He is not doing that. The author wants them apart. This was no fun.
I was further annoyed that three times the couple began hot and heavy kissing that would have led to sex, when Amy's mother arrives saying hello, anyone there? Again this was the author wanting them apart and couldn't figure out how to have the couple do it, so she had the mother do it. Three times?
Lisa comes to town and wants to help with the rehab. Amy should have said no. Quinn should have said something. Lisa and Quinn were in the middle of an unfriendly divorce. Allowing Lisa to join them and spend time with them was too soap opera-ish for me.
A secondary story that was interesting was Amy purchasing and renovating an old theater. She had conflicts with local politicians and an unscrupulous real estate developer who wanted the theater. That was the better part of the book.

Her Best Friend Sarah Mayberry Books Reviews
If you like books that really make you want the characters to finally get a good romantic connection you will like this book !
Great read. Excellent writing that placed a cliche theme against the fresh backdrop of small town Australia. Likeable h/h. Harlequin rarely disappoints. I recommend for anyone who wants a true to genre old school (yet contemporary) romance.
Whenever I see Sarah Mayberry's name on the cover a book I buy it! She always delivers and this story is no exception. She sets up a very messy plot but manages to pull together a believable and satisfying happily ever after. I've found myself thinking of this story several times over the last few days and wishing that I hadn't finished it already!
I picked up this book because of Ridley's review, which promised that I would finish it "wearing a big goofy grin." I was really in the mood for a big goofy grin and, indeed, HER BEST FRIEND supplied it. Mission accomplished.
I usually don't read category romances. I don't like how short they are. But the length is perfect for a book like this, a best-friends-to-lovers story that gives the H/h, Quin and Amy, just enough time to stumble towards the realization that they belong together without having the author introduce any stupid contrivances or dumb, unnecessary fights. This is a Goldilocks sort of story - just right. Not too big (it's quiet, small-town, domestic), not too small (Amy and Quin's feelings leap off the page, sweet and sharp), not a single unnecessary scene.
Highly recommended.
this is a really sweet story of childhood friendship turning into so much more. I enjoyed the fact that the two main characters were friends long before they were lovers. I enjoyed the blossoming of love. the only thing holding me back from a 5 star rating is the almost haphazard addition of a confused and conflicted ex and a devious opponent. they were almost afterthought. but still an good sweet read. leaving me grinning at the end.
Ms. Mayberry knows how to tell not only a great story, but to reach the hearts of her readers! Amy's dilemma made me want to cry for her and hug her. Poor Quinn. His issues ripped at my soul. I hated what he was going through, but I loved his resilience, and humility.
The solid friendship between the two, and their staunch integrity to each other and those who were important to them, made me love them.
Despite what the description may lead you to believe, this is really not a sappy love story, nor is it about an opportunist. This is about slow realization, deep unshakeable loyalty, and being brave enough to know when to fight, how to fight, and when to let things happen.
It's humorous, heart-wrenching, soul searching, and best of all, lovingly sweet.
Ms. Mayberry, this is your best one yet.
Taking a complicated situation - Quinn and Amy are best friends, and Lisa, their friend who Quinn eventually marries, and is in the process of divorcing. Of course Amy has been in love with Quinn forever but never told him because she didn’t want to lose their friendship. Similar to Anything for You, but not as frustrating due to the MCs being a little more self aware and honest than in AFY. Subplot of threat against theater was a bit superfluous. Overall, not Mayberry’s best but not a bad book.
