October Snow Jenna Brooks Books
When Samantha becomes a victim of relationship abuse, she needs her friends Josie and Maxine more than ever. Josie has worked as a Domestic Violence counselor and knows the Family Court System. As the women plan Samantha's escape, they find that while they are friends, they don't really know each other. And once they learn to trust again, they share their pasts with each other. And the women discover that they have more in common than they knew.I highly recommend October Snow, as it is paced well and polished. While the characters are fiction, abuse is real and happens every day. It has been a week since I finished the book, and I'm still thinking about it. The characters and the story resonate with truth and the twist at the end fits with real life.

October Snow Jenna Brooks Books Reviews
I don't normally write reviews, mostly because I read too many books and just don't have the time. I had to write one for this book. As a victim of domestic violence myself, I found that the author has painted a gut-wrenching, heartfelt story of the realities of the US family court system, and the true bond between women who know this life and how unbelievably painful it can be - physically, mentally and emotionally - for everyone involved. It hurt to read, but kudos to Jenna Brooks for not glossing over what is one of the most overlooked, tragic issues in our society. I laughed, I cried, and I cried some more. Well done.
There are some basic differences between fiction and true to life stories, the most useful difference is there is more latitude allowed in the writing when it comes to plot and details in fiction, versus nonfiction. The author has an interesting and believable plot that includes a few subplots that add to the depth of the story. I feel the subplots needed more detail in order to add depth to the overall story. If these details are attended to, this would make a great Lifetime movie dramatic but not overly so.
My favorite part of the book was the opening that came before chapter one; and it is the writing the author employed that lets me know Jenna Snow has not yet reached her full potential as a writer, and seems to be holding back. The opening contains more emotional appeal than the remainder of the book. I believe the true talent of this author will surface as she produces more works.
The writing relies on dialogue to tell the story and the dialogue is appealing, giving you a sense of the characters as they speak; however, there were a few confusing spots from time to time that needed more introduction.
Overall great book
I hate books that make me cry, and I was already reaching for the Kleenex box 1/3 of the way through this book, yet I still enjoyed this book. Each women's strength captivated me, especially Jo. Her story was inspiring yet heartbreaking in parts.
Brooks did an excellent job in her character development. I felt like I knew all three women and was moved by their struggles and triumphs. I had an idea of where Jo's story would end up, but Brooks told it in a way that moved me immensely ***although she owes me a box of Kleenex for both the happy tears and sad ones that I shed!**** Maybe because so much of the story focused around Jo and the impact she had on others, but I felt connected to her. I admired the thought and courage she put into concocting her plan to have leverage over her husband (at the time) and felt her pain at watching her decisions result in unexpected consequences.
I don't know much about the laws behind domestic abuse and divorce, but this book explained (for me at least) a little bit of why some women stay with abusive men and others finally leave.
I don't typically read this genre, but I would recommend this book as both an informative and entertaining read. Some friendships turn into a family and Brooks highlighted this wonderfully in this book.
**spoiler alert**
"October Snow," is a beautiful and well-written novel that will no doubt evoke feelings of amusement, sadness, disgust, anger, shock, and triumph. This novel captured my attention right from the beginning, so intriguing I couldn’t get enough. There is so much going on. It’s a story of domestic abuse the aftermath of surviving such abuse; the hopelessness and despair at the justice system; and its path of destruction. It’s a story of three women and the strength and support they share; a friendship so strong that nothing can come between them. It feels like they’ve been friends for decades when in fact they’ve only known each other for three years. What an amazing read. And the ending? A complete surprise - it was shocking. This is one novel I highly recommend. Should you decide to read "October Snow,", be sure to grab some Kleenex as you’re going to need them.
On a side note, when I began reading "October Snow," I had no idea that it had any religious overtones, in particular, the Christian faith. At no time does it overshadow the story. In fact, I’d have to say the spiritual aspect only enhances the story making it feel more realistic.
October Snow is a well written, emotional and engrossing book about the bonds of friendship in the face of a difficult reality. Ms. Brooks has taken on a grueling subject, domestic violence, and turned it into a story of strength, friendship and bravery. Mix together authentic characters, a powerful story line, eloquent writing style, an enjoyable sharp wit and you have a page-turner of a book that will keep you wanting more. October Snow will take you on a roller coaster ride of emotions and make you feel like you want to meet Max, Samantha and Jo for lunch. I know I'm not the only one cheering for Ms. Brooks and anxiously awaiting her next great creation.
