I have been a Rollermaniac since I was 13 and I still love them. Over the years finding out the hell they went through is heartbreaking and horrific. I never liked Tam Paton and this book proves me right. What a horrible man that took his greed over his responsibilities as a manager. The Rollers got their fans but lost out in millions of royalties. There is no true justice in this world but the Rollers deserve it. To know that they suffered this turmoil just to make music is so unfair. I have loved them since SATURDAY NIGHT and always will!! To understand how their lives have changed from being Scottish lads to adult men who are traumatized from people who were supposed to protect them and inner turmoil in between group members that couldn't or wouldn't get along is so sad. They had it all and lost it all because they trusted the wrong people. I hope that one day their story changes into a happy ending story for they truly deserve it. What a wonderful book. It makes you appreciate your life, I know it did mine. Long Live the Bay City Rollers!!!

More about their manager than I expected. Not too sure of his sources, he didn't even interview the band, (except members that weren't even there during their peak.)
Too much Tam Patton and not enough BCR. This book is actually the dark history of Tam Patton with some BCR info mixed in. All in all, this book is very disturbing and sad.
Brutal, stomach turning in the depth of detail about Tam Paton and his depraved dark life. The author could have turned out a masterpiece about one of the century's most iconic boy bands. Instead, it became almost a creep show. If Tam's life was the authors fascination, call the book the dark side of Tam Paton. The Rollers part in this book was almost an afterthought, filler to give a reason to use the group name to sell copies. Just one more person cashing in on the guys hard work, and them getting naught...
I'm almost halfway through the book. So far seems to be a biography of Tam Paton. Disappointing so far...
This is a wonderfully informative book on the history of the Bay City Rollers. Well researched with many incredible revelations, especially on their former manager Tam Paton, and the struggles the Rollers went through to gain credibility and the royalties that were due to them. This book is also a cautionary tale about the abusive and predatory underbelly of the music industry. A recommended read.
Bloated and boring. The author spends most of the book focused on their sexuality and doesn't give any where near enough detail on their upbringing, career trajectory, background, personal lives and music. Those are the things that make a band bio worth purchasing. Borrows heavily from last year's "Bay City Babylon" which is still the definitive book on the BCR by far.
I believe people can write and create however they like. Artistic expression should be protected. However... when does it cross a line and become opportunistic? My review is more critical of an author who takes license over hearsay and gossip to throw together a handful of tragic occurrences; and does so without any benefit of technical know how with regard to writing it well. It reads more like a gossip rag that wants to rehash the supposed personal experiences of a group of very young men who were not only given the worst possible advice by the people they trusted, but were so blatantly taken advantage of by the adults and business people in their lives. And so it continues... I read it until this "writer" started providing info that is best allowed forgotten. From a technical standpoint It's thrown together from sensational "stories" and "anonymous" sources. The punctuation / grammar reveal it wasn't professionally proofread. I get it -- tragedy and naughty gossip sells. He obviously wasn't looking to win the Pulitzer for this piece. But this is like the 100th book on the way this band was screwed. It's an old story taken from the questionable side of history.

My teen years were filled with fond memories and awesome music from these guys. I don't care if it was manufactured music. I don't care if they were getting laid every 10 minutes. I don't care if they partied. They were KIDS. They were having the time of their life until the reality of crazy town hit them. What a horrible experience to have -- and to keep reliving it can't be easy. No one deserves to be screwed every year when some wanna be wants to make another dime on someone else's sad story.
