4.5 starsBetrayed is a fast-paced, paranormal read with fabulous characters, an engaging Nephilim mythology, lots of action, and a great romance. I love it when the sequel is just as good as the first book, if not better. Ednah definitely knows how to grab a hold of my attention from the get go and in the end leaves me wanting so much more. This time there's more twists, suspense betrayal and the stakes are higher than ever for Lil and Bran.
The characters are even better in this sequel. Lil is still a strong heroine who's not afraid to kick some serious demon butt. She's loyal, snarky and tough, as she's not only learning to control her growing powers, but she has to figure out who's betrayal her, which is hard to do when you have so many great characters around you to support and help you. I felt like I connected more with Lil as she sorts out what's going on between her Bran, her father and her, and which of her friend's is betraying her. Bran and Lil's chemistry is great, if not a little stronger that it was in Awakened. There were times I totally wanted to kick Bran's butt, but in the end I completely understood why he was acting the way he was. I loved that Bran, Sykes, Remy, Izzy and Kim were back, along with some other favorites. Bran and Skyes back and forth bantering was great and provided the right amount of comical relief to the story. I really like Skyes's character. He's cocky and funny all at the same time, and knows how to push Bran's buttons by flittering with Lil, even if she doesn't flirt back.
I liked the way many of the characters were written and how they were developed as the engaging story line goes on. There's some great character surprises through out the story and just as I think I might have them figured out, Ednah throws in another twist. One of my favorites is the way Valafar, Lil's father and his #1 go to go guy, Dante where written. They're evil by nature, but yet I couldn't help but being intrigued by them. I liked them, but I also wanted to know more about their ulterior motives for their actions. I liked getting to see more of them in the storyline. The secrets and betrayal in the story were fabulous and I love it when an author can surprise me like that. The Guardian Legacy series has an intriguing mythology, an engaging mix of action, intense scenes, and romance. It's a series I really enjoy and one I'd definitely recommend to readers 13 yrs old & older.

Awakened Book One of the Guardian Legacy Ednah Walters 9781617060380 Books Reviews
Author of the Runes series, Ednah Walters has once again produced a fascinating story with a strong but naive female lead that draws you into her world and head, an interesting hodge-podge cast of friends and family with unique and strong personalities, and of course a swoon-worthy male lead with a few twists and turns that keep you wondering about him.
The story follows Lil (Lilith) as she enters her new role in a paranormal world she's always been a part of without even knowing; this begins with a quick toss into the deep end (the awakening itself) with the sudden arrival of Bran--our hunky but sweet lead--followed by more gradual but nonetheless surprising new discoveries along the way which expose just how deep Lil is into this messy but intriguing world, which includes nephilim, demons, nosferatu and 'were'creatures. (To avoid spoilers, I'll not mention what messes Lil faces first). The plot is a little slow at first, but picks up quickly and the action made my heart pound, and my fingers itch to turn the page further along in the book; this transition mirror's Lil's own knowledge and actually helps the reader feel as though they are part of the tale (and get caught up to speed on this new world too).
I couldn't put it down and finished in a few days. Within hours, I was onto the next in the series. I love me some Bran, but enjoy the interplay between all the other characters and especially with Lil (particularly quirky but old fashioned Grampa, loyal but sharp Kim, and the mysterious nosferatu Moira). Looking forward to their next heart-hammering adventure with a side of humor and romance.
Book Review- Awakened by Ednah Walters
Lil lives with her grandfather. Her mother and grandmother were killed in a car accident when she was small. She and her grandfather have moved around a lot. Her grandfather was an illusionist for a circus for years. She is now in a new place and preparing to start a new school. She just turned sixteen and has been hearing a few distant voices buzzing in her head but she dismisses telling her grandfather. She just assumes she inherited the gift of hearing spirits from her gypsy grandmother.
Little does she know she is very wrong. Her life changes forever when she hears a boy call to her. He asks her to meet him at the Raven Tree. Lil believes he is a spirit and is surprised to find a real person. Bran needs the help of her grandfather and reveals a few secrets to Lil in the process. She is completely shocked. In fact she doesn’t believe a word of it at first. She is a guardian in training and her grandfather has been the leader of the guardians for centuries. Lil has her own powers. In fact she loses control of them when she is hit with the truth. The other guardians are shocked at her abilities and strength. Lil is faced with the decision to join the other guardian trainees or not. She also has a fascination with Bran. She is drawn to him in a way she has never felt before. When things get dangerous and demons start learning of her existence, Lil turns to those she needs to save those she loves. She comes face to face with her father. Her world is never going to be the same, even the new one she was starting to accept.
This is the prequel to the Guardian Legacy Series. I decided to read this first to start the series. I think it will make more sense in the long run as I read through the series. It gave a lot of background stories for the characters and guardians. It also gave a strong base to build onto.
It introduces the characters and explains how they meet. It also shows how Eden is suddenly thrust into the world of guardians and demons. In fact she seems to have an important role in the war that is being waged. This book was a great introduction to an intriguing series. I can’t wait to read the next book. I give this a 4 out of 5.
